Shanghai - Day 2

21st July 2009 (Tue)

In the morning, we met up with Jia Wei at a bread shop (85oC) near our motel..
-Walking along the street outside our motel-
She has been saying that the bread at this bread shop is very nice so we went to try.. and the bread and pearl milk tea there is really super duper nice!!! Got a wide range of different breads.. but too bad cannot take photos in the shop.. below photos are taken before they told us photography is not allowed..

And today we found out Jia Wei likes black and white strips.. haha she was all dressed out in black and white strips today.. together with her zebra umbrella! :)
After a full breakfast, we took a cab to the Shanghai Museum (上海博物馆) which was located at People’s Square (人民广场) - a large public square just off Nanjing Road in the Huangpu District of Shanghai.
Entrance to the musuem is free!
After spending quite a while at the musuem, we exited from the other side of the museum to see some of Shanghai's municipal government buildings.

Shanghai Grand Theater (上海大剧院) is the bowl-shaped building on the left, and the buildings in the center and on the right are the municipal government buildings.
With such a nice open space and view, we just had to do some jump shots!

But the best shot (of the whole trip) is still the one below!! super cool! :D

Cutting through People’s Park (人民公园) and some shopping centres, we headed towards 南京路步行街.. but before that.. we took some photos and did some shopping.. and Hui Fang bought mochi!
haha thanks to weichen's photo skill, we froze in time! lol..

I absolutely love the photos with the rows and rows of mochi!!

Did some shopping along 南京路步行街..

- 南京路步行街-

- Stopped over at Mac. for a drink and place to rest our legs :p -

- In the dressing room -

But then halfway through, it rained! In the end we cut short our walk down the street and headed to another place called 静安市. We had to take a train to that place and it was then that we experienced the peak hour train ride on Shanghai’s MRT. I was practically thrown off my feet at 人民广场 station!! Thrown almost out of the train and then back in.. lol.. Hui Fang and Wei Chen just got pushed out of the train.. Jia Wei stayed on the train.. haha.. what an experience..

Yup we reached 静安市safety.. but we soon found out that the place was close for renovation.. With no other place to walk around the area, we just took a cab to the restaurant that we would be meeting Sylvia and bf for dinner. But change of plans led the four of us to eat mini lobster instead! Apparently it is one of Shanghai’s delicacy cause I see them everywhere!

-静安市 which the place is called after-

Mini Lobster Dinner!

we tried the 葱烤龙虾 and 鱼香龙虾.. and ordered a portion of 清炒年糕..
yummy meal! even though it was small lobster and it was not very 爽 to eat one by itself.. take quite a while to get to the meat and it's size is not satisfying.. :p

After dinner, we took a cab to Hyatt at the Bund to meet up with Sylvia and bf. We went up to Vue Bar on the 32nd Floor for a drink and at the same time admire the night landscape of Shanghai.. because 外滩 is currently undergoing some construction works.. (which seems to be happening to the whole of Shanghai..) so i guess this is a gd alternative!

That’s all for Shanghai Day 2! :)
