Hong Kong (August 2013) - Day 1

21st August 2013 (Wed)

I'm heading to Hong Kong again! Opps.. 4th time in five years!
After working together with Lay Ling for 3 years, we are finally travelling together to 买东西吃东西 买东西吃东西! We bought a Groupon deal for this trip, which includes our air ticket, accommodation, half-day city tour as well as transport to and from the hotel.

This will be one of my most planned trip to Hong Kong ever! Did up the itinerary 2 weeks in advance with all the popular food places to go! Time to visit all of them since i didn't get to eat them during all my past visits to Hong Kong.

Flying off on a Wednesday morning means little sleep for the night :( Worked till 10pm on Tuesday night before heading home to do last minute packing and catching a short nap. Flight is at 7am so it means being at the airport at 5am in the morning! *yawns*

Dad gave me a lift to the airport where i met up with Lay Ling :)

Instagram while waiting for Lay Ling to arrive..

We had some time to spare before the gate open, so its Starbucks time (for Lay Ling) and cam-whoring!

Breakfast aboard the plane - Omelet with Bacon and Hashbrown.

Suppose to arrive at 10.55am in Hong Kong, but our flight arrived early and we touch down at 10.30am!

Bought our Octopus card and took a while to finally find and meet up with the local tour agency representative to take the coach to our hotel - Silka West Kowloon Hotel.
Only 4 ppl to a big coach!

We were able to check in upon arrival to the hotel and as expected, a small room! Barely room to move around with the luggages on the floor, and no small table and chairs to sit and eat stuff. But still livable.. at least it is a proper hotel and not an inn. :p

Then we headed to find lunch around our hotel before heading to our first destination in our itinerary.Walked and came across New Kowloon Plaza just across the street from our hotel. It's like a small neighborhood mall and we settled lunch at Tai Hing for roasted meat. :)

My lunch - roasted pork and roast duck with milk tea on ice!

After lunch we headed to Tung Chung via Olympic Station for shopping at City Gate Outlet Mall. Surprisingly on schedule as planned!

Our hopes were high to be able to purchase stuff at City Gate - Coach wristlet for Lay Ling & dance shoes for myself. Probably my hopes were too high because i managed to get some really good deals previously on my last trip there.
In the end, i made do with a pair of shoes from Purma and we headed to our dinner place - Tim Ho Wan!

First time eating it (be it in Singapore or Hong Kong). The Mongkok outlet has relocated to Olympian City 2 shopping centre which is near our hotel. So lucky us!

We didn't have to wait long before we were directed to our seats and we started ordering & ended up ordering a lot!! We didn't know the Char Siew Bao will be 3 in a plate and we ordered 2 portions (>_<) together with all the usual dim sum and glutinous rice.

Our orders :p

I think it was quite a sight seeing 2 girls and a table full of dim sum. The folks sitting on our left and right were commenting on the amount of food  we had ordered in cantonese. As compared to their orders, we had ordered doubled of theirs! :p

I kind of understood what they were saying and smiled at them, and the mother and daughter sitting next to us started talking to us - asking where we were from and recommending nearby places to eat etc. As we had ordered too much and could not even start eating the glutinous rice, they recommended da-baoing it for the next day breakfast and going to 7-11 to heat it up. They were saying the 7-11 in Hong Kong is ok with this and they won't stop us from doing it! lol.. something good to know if i need to heat up my food in the future in hong kong :p

So we ended up taking away the glutinous rice and requested for the kitchen to help us heat up the rice so that it won't be as cold upon reaching our hotel. But instead of doing so, the chief in the kitchen gave us an entire new portion of rice since we haven't touch ours! *thumbs up for the good service!*

Address of the other Tim Ho Wan branches in Hong Kong!

After a very satisfying dinner!

Did some more shopping before the mall closed and we headed back to our hotel.
By then we were then able to stomach our leftover glutinous rice, and it was daebak! Nice! The rice had absorb the sauce of the meat and the lotus leaf, and there was plenty of fillings! Even a full chicken wing!

 Satisfying supper!

We freshen up and then it was time for our weekly running man session since we wasn't able to watch it on our usual Tuesday night :)

Running Man in Hong Kong :)
